Healthy soil is the key to healthy plants

The key to successful growing is soil quality. Healthy soil that is rich in organic material means healthy, disease resistant plants that require less watering and feeding.

recycleOrganic material is naturally recycled plant and animal matter that has been allowed to decom-pose slowly and return to the soil. In a word, COMPOST! The finest compost-based soils and mulches combine decomposed marine and plant matter teeming with the naturally occurring micro-organisms all plants need for healthy growth.

Here at Coast of Maine we are proud of the quality of our composts. We start with carefully designed and tested recipes and the very best ingredients. Just as important, we pay close attention to detail throughout the composting process. That means frequent turning, sampling and testing and a lengthy aging and curing process.

Penobscot Blend Compost & Peat is a compost-based planting mix ideal for bedding annuals and planting perennials, roses, shrubs and trees. Remember, healthy soil is the key to growing healthy plants.

We use all natural ingredients

Penobscot Blend is a unique blend of compost and peat. Compost is a rich source of organic material and will help improve the moisture and nutrient holding capacity of your soil. Peat helps lighten the blend and gives it a consistent texture.

salmonAtlantic salmon is farmed in the inlets of Passamaquoddy Bay. Legend has it that the region’s native tribes used fish to fertilize their crops long before the arrival of the first European colonists.

blueberriesWild blueberries are hand-raked in the late summer on the coastal barrens that stretch from Penobscot Bay to Nova Scotia. The leaves and twigs are a rich sources of fibrous organic matter.

musselsBlue mussels are farmed and harvested all along the North Atlantic coast. The crushed shells are a rich source of calcium and help aerate and add texture to poor, acidic soils common to the Northeast.

Sphagnum peat is the decayed remains of a moss that has thrived in coastal bogs since the Ice Age. Its water absorbing capacity makes it a key ingredient.

Follow these few, simple steps

Fill in with equal parts of Penobscot Blend and soil, tamping around the plant. Water thoroughly and regularly until the plant has established itself. Feed with an organic plant food.

Excellent product

We began to use this product as our peat/compost and found that it was the perfect additive for lawns and flowers. This year we ordered many more bags. While more expensive that the local nursery products, its quality is far superior.

Love the service and the quality of the plants

Received healthy potted plants. Delivered from local nursery
